Many homeowners use more fertilizers than may be necessary.  Fertilzers contain nutrients that may contribute to low oxygen levels in the water.  Homewoners can get their soil sampled at Clemson Extension for $6 and this will tell them exactly what kind and how much fertilzer is needed for your yard.  This will save you valuable time and money as well as protect water quality.
